Shrimp Larvae

The term "shrimps" is in fact a very loose term that refers to several quite different taxonomic groups of crustaceans, including Dendrobranchiata and Caridea shrimps, Mysidae (or opossum shrimps), and Stomatopoda (or mantis shrimps). The common feature they all share is a similar elongated "shrimp-like" body form. Also included in this section are the Palinuridae (or spiny lobsters).

Although some shrimps are holoplanktonic and spend their entire life cycle in the plankton, most are meroplanktonic and may have multiple larval stages that constitute part of the plankton community.
